Balnaves 'The Tally' Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Balnaves 'The Tally' Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Outstanding deep red in colour, and purple tint. Big nose of ripe fruit with grilled nuts, smokey notes, rich fruit, prunes, liquorice, tobacco combined with smoky vanillin oak. The palate is full, rich and softly textured. It has complex ripe fruit, dark seaweed characters, great length and persistence, finishing with firm tannins. Great example of Coonawarra in a hot year.

Drink now or hold on to for a few more years.

Brundlmayer 'Zobinger Heiligenstein Lyra' Riesling 2012

Brundlmayer 'Zobinger Heiligenstein Lyra' Riesling 2012

The Bründlmayer family owns 12 hectares right in the centre of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein, of which 10,5  hectares are planted with Riesling. From a geological point of view the Zöbinger Heiligenstein site is not only the oldest but probably also the most interesting on our estate: the soil consists desert sandstone, volcanic sediment and carbonized remains of primeval vegetation. The uniqueness of this soil, plus its perfect gradient and position, provide ideal preconditions for growing outstanding wines. During the day, warm winds stream along the terrassen whereas by nightfall cool gusts from the North start blowing through the Kamp Valley and bring forward the aromatic expression of the grapes.

About 20% of our Heiligenstein vineyards are trained in a Lyra trellis system. The vine bifurcates in a way that the branches seem to reach to the heavens like sun-worshippers. This method doubles canopy exposure and favors aeration which improves photosynthesis and prevents dreaded fungus diseases. Yields are restricted by rigorous thinning and although harvest started late only healthy berries without botrytis were brought in. These techniques result in increasing the quality of grapes to show a similar intensity as those deriving from old vines.

An awesome wine and a personal favourite. Combines richness and depth with freshness and acidity. With age for yonks. Buy and cellar now. (Julian A.)

    Chateau Haut-Brion Pessac-Leognan 2004

    Chateau Haut-Brion Pessac-Leognan 2004

The nose is relatively discreet but has great clarity including nuances in turn of red fruit, minerals, woodiness and smoke. We find a complexity in the mouth. In spite of enormous concentration, the tannins do not attack the palate. The wine is precise, long and straight. Behind its façade of austerity we discover a wine with great elegance and stylishness. With the 2004 Chateau Haut-Brion has developed one of the great wines of the vintage.

    Chateau Haut-Brion Pessac-Leognan 2005

    Chateau Haut-Brion Pessac-Leognan 2005

    A VERY EXCEPTIONAL YEAR
The color is so dense that the wine seems almost black. The nose has an intensity of aromas that are mind-blowing. It can never disavow its origins as we find all the complexity that is so well known for characterizing Haut-Brion: its notes of smoke, of cigar and roasted coffee grains. The whiff of fresh fruit is also present: currants and cherries. From the first approach this wine startles one with its density. It is long in the mouth plus creamy, big, powerful and fresh. It takes a hold of you and penetrates your senses. Power and harmony are the distinctive traits of this vintage. The aromatic persistence is incredibly long. This perfectly balanced wine will without a doubt become one of the biggest successes of our Domaine.

    Chateau Margaux 2006

    Chateau Margaux 2006

The utterly famous 1er Cru Classe/First Growth Bordeaux the consistently produces the best wines in the Medoc. 2006 is therefore a great Château Margaux vintage. Of course, it is not 2005, or 2000; those vintages are exceptional. But it does have both the grace and the purity of the 1996, the so classic freshness of the 2004 and the heady power of the 1986 or the 1995. Such balance is a brilliant expression of Château Margaux’s noble terroir.
