Balnaves 'The Tally' Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Balnaves 'The Tally' Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

Outstanding deep red in colour, and purple tint. Big nose of ripe fruit with grilled nuts, smokey notes, rich fruit, prunes, liquorice, tobacco combined with smoky vanillin oak. The palate is full, rich and softly textured. It has complex ripe fruit, dark seaweed characters, great length and persistence, finishing with firm tannins. Great example of Coonawarra in a warm year.

Drinking perfectly now, though it will continue aging for a few years yet. Decanting recommended.

Balnaves The Tally Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

Balnaves The Tally Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

This is arguably Australia's finest Cabernet. Released only in the very best years, and may be aged up to 20 years.

This is a rich and powerful wine. Aromas of blackcurrants, violets, anise, and spices. The palate is equally dense with full bodied fruits and velvety tannin structure. It has a lot of length, with hints of chocolate, cedar, and mint. It's one of Halliday's all-time favourite wines, and Balnaves' Peter Bissel won winemaker of the year for this vintage.

Drinking perfectly now, will continue to age well for some time. Decanting recommended.

    Bannockburn Serre Pinot Noir 2012

    Bannockburn Serre Pinot Noir 2012

An excellent Pinot from a great producer. Elegant and light in style with fine acidity and oodles of complexity. Notes of red cherry, spice and forest floor are all present with new aromas coming through the longer the bottle is open. The palate is finely woven together with fruit, tannin and acidity all working together. Excellent finish.

Bass Phillip 'Premium' Pinot Noir 2014

Bass Phillip 'Premium' Pinot Noir 2014

Bass Phillip’s flagship wine: a wine with strong personality in aroma and complex flavor. Layered, textured and long. Improves in the cellar for more than ten years.

Very complete with intense dark fruits, acid backbone and complex, long & lingering flavours of many kinds: ripe but tight; fully tannic but balanced. Supple, chewy fruits: textured to the end with furry tannins wrapped in sweet fruit. Possibly the best ever. Will improve for fifteen years!

Brundlmayer 'Zobinger Heiligenstein Lyra' Riesling 2012

Brundlmayer 'Zobinger Heiligenstein Lyra' Riesling 2012

The Bründlmayer family owns 12 hectares right in the centre of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein, of which 10,5  hectares are planted with Riesling. From a geological point of view the Zöbinger Heiligenstein site is not only the oldest but probably also the most interesting on our estate: the soil consists desert sandstone, volcanic sediment and carbonized remains of primeval vegetation. The uniqueness of this soil, plus its perfect gradient and position, provide ideal preconditions for growing outstanding wines. During the day, warm winds stream along the terrassen whereas by nightfall cool gusts from the North start blowing through the Kamp Valley and bring forward the aromatic expression of the grapes.

About 20% of our Heiligenstein vineyards are trained in a Lyra trellis system. The vine bifurcates in a way that the branches seem to reach to the heavens like sun-worshippers. This method doubles canopy exposure and favors aeration which improves photosynthesis and prevents dreaded fungus diseases. Yields are restricted by rigorous thinning and although harvest started late only healthy berries without botrytis were brought in. These techniques result in increasing the quality of grapes to show a similar intensity as those deriving from old vines.

An awesome wine and a personal favourite. Combines richness and depth with freshness and acidity. With age for yonks. Buy and cellar now. (Julian A.)

By Farr Sangreal Pinot Noir 2015

By Farr Sangreal Pinot Noir 2015

From the vineyard: Each year the same descriptive notes come to mind for this wine; seductive, perfumed, seamless balance and moreish. It is a site that wavers very little in more difficult vintages and excels in great ones. This is the back bone of Wine By Farr. Once again the alluring characters of this site combined with red fruits, whole bunch, acidity, and oak have produced a beautifully interwoven expression of site and vintage. That’s what it’s all about for a near perfect vintage!
