Heiwa Shuzo Tsuruume Yuzushu

Heiwa Shuzo Tsuruume Yuzushu

A clean, acidic and intense Japanese limoncello-style drink made using 50% fruit juice.

Yuzu is a tart citrus fruit found in Asia and the juice of the fruit is mixed with sake to create yuzushu. This expression from Heiwa Shuzo is mixed at a 1:1 ration with junmai sake, which is a high ration of juice to most others.

They harvest the yuzu fruits from Wkayama and they are juiced whole (peels and all) to release both the sweet and sour flavours of the fruit. Sugar is added but there are no sulphites, artificial colours or flavours.

Heiwa Shuzo was founded in 1928 in Wakayama. The site was a temple for 500 years before it was turned into a brewery. Ume and yuzu fruits are grown locally in abundance and working directly with the farmers gives Heiwa great access to top quality prouducts.

It results in a hugely tasty, refreshing drink that's hard to pull yourself away from. It's becoming one of our hits of the summer and has just arrived back in store after selling out of the country early December.

You can serve it neat, but our spirits buyer enjoys it best over a few large blocks of ice.

Unable to keep themselves away, the rest of The Oak Barrel's staff recently had their say on the bottle as well.

"We couldn't resist so we cracked a bottle. It's unbelievably fresh, citrusy, tart, and sweet. Dan reckons it tastes like homemade lemonade. Highly recommended, 5 lemons!"

A fresh shipment of Heiwa Shuzo Yuzushu arrived yesterday from @blackmarketsake ✌️️
