Sour Beer Tasting featuring Almanac Brewing Co.

They’re beers rooted in history that have found a dedicated modern following – sour beers are a favourite drink of summer. They are one of the most variable and fascinating styles.

These brews, purposely sour and tart, can be daunting to get your head around. There are many different styles and methods of brewing them, it can be hard to work out exactly what wild yeast is, and to tell your lactobacillus from your pediococcus.

Never fear, we’ll be breaking it all down into simple, swallow-able size pieces with a Sour Beer Tasting at the Oak Barrel. Inspired by our love of summer sours and the all-year-round excellence of the historic Belgian styles, we’ve also been prompted by a new January shipment of Northern California’s Almanac Brewing Co – modern leaders in wild yeasts and fermentation.

Almanac brew some of the best and most interesting ‘new world’ sours, featuring home grown and locally sourced produce in their beers with a focus on ‘Farm To Barrel’.

The evening will be hosted by our resident craft beer and cider specialist as we get wade into the ever-changing world of New World sours. We’re going to look at the different types of sours, the different bugs and how the style has evolved into what it is today.

We'll be opening a couple of old world sours, plus our Almanacs for comparison.

So, come and get “tarted-up” with us for what’s sure to be a fascinatingly delicious evening.

We have limited tickets available for this tasting event, so get in quick to avoid disappointment.
