NEW STUFF - To Ol - Denmark

06/04/2016

Citizens,
Back in 2005 Tobias Emil Jensen and Tore Gynther were young lads studying at Det Fri Gymnasium – a direct democracy based high school in Copenhagen – talking to their teacher Mikkel Borg Bjergsø (Mikkeller) about the weird fact that most Danish breweries were continuously bawling about their crap beers having been brewed for more than 100 years, rather than focusing on the actual taste and content of their brews: As if a stale lager ever has become less nauseous by the fact that it has been brewed for over 100 years?!
The three of them agreed that the only way to ensure the quality of beer was to brew the beers themselves.
And so they did.
Later Mikkel started the well-known brewery Mikkeller, which has garnered wide international recognition. Tobias and Tore continued to make home brews and in 2010 they were ready to make their first commercial brew and the brewery To Øl was founded.

NEW ON THE SHELF :

To Øl Black Maria Black Double IPA 8.1%
Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.  rb   =   98

To Øl Black Ball Porter - Imperial Porter 8%
Black Ball is a potent porter with a nice and round mouth feel combined with a lot of american hops, that balances the full and creamy body which has notes of chocolate, coffee and smoke.  rb  =  99

To Øl Friends With Benefits - American Pale Ale
SOME FRIENDS JUST GET MORE ATTENTION THAN OTHER FRIENDS. THESE FRIENDSHIPS SHARE A COMMON INTEREST FOR PLEASING EACH OTHER, THIS GOES AS WELL FOR THIS BEER. THIS BEER IS BREWED FOR OUR “FRIENDS” AT MIKKELLER AND FRIENDS AS A FRIENDLY PALE ALE, LOADED WITH AMERICAN HOPS.

To Øl Peardon My French - Saison 7.5%
Cider-like Saison brewed with Pears and aged on Sauterne barrels. This crisp ale is straw coloured and sparkling using only Pilsner Malt and Unmalted Wheat, however we used Cider yeast and brewed it with Pears and used Calypso hops, to layer this beer with fruit flavours. This beer was then infused in Sauterne barrels, a sweet French wine, with Brett added into the barrels.  rb  =  97

To Øl Smoke On the Porter - Fire in the Rye - Imperial Porter 13.2%
To the masters of Rock, and of Puns, we salute you. “Smoke On The Porter, Fire In The Rye” intends for you to strap on your leather trousers and denim vest, and Rock Out.

Smoooooooke on the Porter - Fire in the Rye is an Imperial Smoked Chili Rye Porter. Aggressive yet balanced touch of smoked Chipotle adding heat and smoke combined with a spicy feeling from the rye on top a deep black vicious beast of an imperial porter.   rb   =  96

To Øl Sur Yule - Sour/Wild Ale 5.4% 750ml
Recreate those sour moments over the festive season. Everyone knows that point around Christmas when the mood turns sour, forced to eat the vegetables you don’t like or when there is no cold meat left for sandwiches (or vegetarian alternative if that’s your thing). We thought that the best way to re-create this was to create a Sour Winter Pale Ale, that uses a pounding of Vic Secret and then finishes it off with cherries, reminiscent of puddings at Christmas. at 5,4%, share your sour feelings with the whole family!

Drink well

Ian
