Kilkerran Tasting With David Allen

Our love for the Kilkerran single malt whiskies is no secret. (Evidence here and here).

From the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland, and bottled under the Kilkerran name, this is a new Scotch to the market and a prime example that ‘new’ whisky can be just as good as the old.

Owned by Springbank, the old Glengyle site was bought in 2004 after nearly 70 years of silence and brought back to life.

A series of ‘Work In Progress’ releases to the eventual release of their staple 12-year-old in 2016 and Kilkerran single malts have been whiskies made with love, patience and care. That comes through in the glass, these are whiskies with beautifully old school aromas but with startling complexity and engaging drinkability.

There are very few whiskies that taste like this anymore.

With The Oak Barrel being home to arguably Kilkerran’s biggest Australian fan, we are more than excited to confirm that David Allen from the Kilkerran/Springbank family will be returning to our tasting room to lead us down the path of that fantastic drop.

See, we even have a barrel head at the front of the store.

We’ll be looking a the history and the future of Kilkerran and Glengyle, not only in the conversation we’ll have but in the whiskies on your table as well.

With some of the bottles set to be brought over by David, we haven’t locked down the line-up but we can confirm the veritable Kilkerran 12-Year-Old and the Kilkerran 8 Cask Strength will be there in all their glory.

This promises to be a special night, complete with staff members giddy with excitement.
