Dormilona Wines New Release

19/05/2016

Introducing Dormilona: A micro winery based in Margaret River, Western Australia, run by husband and wife Jimmy and Josephine Perry. After finishing a degree in Oenology (the study of wines for those playing at home), Josephine completed worked across a number of vintages throughout France (Burgundy, Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley), plus harvests in California, New Zealand and Australia.

Those experiences have helped craft their own unique creations under the Dormilona brand.

Following organic and biodynamic practices, the grapes are free from pesticides and fungicides and the duo use only natural farmed fruit. Their wines are produced with no additives, fining or filtration.

Dormilona translates to "lazy bones" in Spanish, a cheeky reference to their non-intervention style of winemaking. They say it "helps to express the vineyards character, the vintage and in return make tasty wines that are alternative in fashion and style.”

Their methods have resulted in very true, elegant and delicate wines. Their Chenin Blanc is, in particular, very beautiful.

Just released is a limited range of project wines called "CLAYFACE" - hand made in pure amphora containers.

Definitely a winery to follow up!

Dormilona Chenin Blanc 2015

This is a serious Chenin, 100% organic Chenin Blanc, from a small vineyard in Willyabrup sub region. Hand picked, whole bunch pressed straight to barrel for wild ferment. Battonaged with extra love and bottled with no additives, fining nor filtration on a bright sunny day.

Dormilona Tinto 2015

"With this wine Dormilona have tried to make a Shiraz that is nothing like the oaky hell beasts of classic Australia. Juicy and spicy with vibrant fruit, fine acidity and a nice easy finish. Awesome to drink, its highly enjoyable and very moreish. Keep it coming." (Julian A.)

Dormilona Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

100% good old Cabernet Sauvignon from our little dry grown block in Wallcliffe. Hand picked, foot stomped, wild fermented in opens & post maceration for a couple of months. Then basket pressed and aged to perfection in seasoned French oak barriques. Only racked once and sulpured at bottling. No additives, fining, nor filtration to express the wonders of the land.

Dormilona Clayface Cabernet 2015

"Single vineyard in Wallcliffe, left on skins for 140 days, natural ferment, brought to life in terracotta pots, sent to bottle with no additions aside a little sulphur. It’s a light, fresh, tannin-driven wine that sits outside the realm of elegance and polish of the rarified high end wines of the region, but finds another compelling mojo." Mike Bennie from Wine Front

Dormilona 'Clayface' Chardonnay 2015

Its a limited range of project wines hand made in pure terracotta amphora pots. Dry grown from our single vineyard little block in Wallcliffe. Hand harvest and basket pressed straight into the amphora pots. Wild ferment & natural malo. Hand bottled direct from pots, sealed under cork with wax top. No finings, no adds, no filtration, no pumping, no gas, no nothing really just a lotta love. Only very minimal sulphur at the bottling process to ensure no bottle variation & to eliminate any oxygen pick up.

Due a very limited production, some wine won't be in store for a long time!
