Limited Releases From By Farr Wine

QUICK UPDATE: We're only two weeks away from our annual Sydney Wine Fair - Saturday 16th July, and we are pleased to confirm a new exhibitor in Domaine Simha from Tasmania! We will have some of the top German wines from the importer Cellar Hand.... Details here.

And then to today's news...

We have been lucky enough to receive a small allocation of releases from By Farr this year, one of the best wineries in Geelong. Gary Farr has arguably been Australia’s most consistent maker of Pinot Noir. For over thirty years Gary has been responsible for a huge range of the variety, firstly with Bannockburn and now for over a decade at his own estate, By Farr. Always consistent through the year, they are producing some of the finest and the most complex wines from this area.

We're delighted to have a range in store, but due to a tiny vintage and the very high quality, these wines will sell out very quickly.

From the winery: "The 2014 vintage will age quite gracefully with the concentration that comes with smaller vintages. A vintage we have found to be very perfumed in the barrel and now in bottle. Wines which have great direction, power and enjoyment from the Moorabool Valley. Please enjoy."

Harvest notes from 2014: “The season started well with average rainfall during a slightly warm winter which became an early Spring because of the warm conditions. The start to the growing season was very strong but rapid, and we were challenged to keep up with the amount of canopy growth and therefore management. The vines looked fantastic leading up to flowering which was perhaps a week earlier than normal." - Nick Farr

Wines Available Now:

2015 By Farr ‘Three Oaks’ Chardonnay (12 bottles)

Crystal clear golden straw colour. Showing a fleshy, minerally nose with fruit and integrated French oak but almost dominated by the soil characteristics and vintage freshness. The palate is really bright, with great fruit flavour and structure. The firm acidity is focused and long. As textured as any that have been produced from the By Farr vineyard. Superb aftertaste. This may turn out to be the best By Farr chardonnay we have made.

2015 By Farr Viognier (6 bottles)

A lovely perfumed, yet subtle expression of viognier. Fresh peach and apricot flavours as a young wine, which we believe will intensify over time. The palate is more luscious than of late and shows a ginger-flavoured freshness with underlying power and long clean fresh finish. This wine is delightful already but will benefit beautifully from 12 months of bottle ageing, as the acid softens.

2014 By Farr Pinot Noir ‘Farrside’ (24 bottles)

Farrside, with each vintage continues to show more masculinity, structure and savoury components than the other two pinots. Deep meaty, spicy and mineral are the flavours which continue to evolve Farrside as a site and wine. A balanced array of red and black fruits, it is fresh and edgy. A firm yet delicate wine with a long textured finish. Bucket loads of character.

2014 By Farr Pinot Noir ‘Sangreal’ (12 bottles)

Each year the same descriptive notes come to mind for this wine, seductive, perfumed, seamless balance and moreish. It is a site that wavers very little in more difficult vintages and excels in the great ones. This is the back bone of Wine By Farr. Once again the alluring characters of this site combined with red fruits, whole bunch, acidity and oak have produced a beautifully interwoven expression of site and vintage. That’s what its all about for a near perfect vintage!

2014 By Farr Shiraz (6 bottles)

'The nose is typically cool climate Shiraz. Spice with pepper, minerally, leaning towards earthy. Once again 4% viognier was added to the wine to enhance the nose and soften the palate. The palate has a very pleasant sweetness to start followed by intense fruit, some earthy soft long tannins with a clean lingering savoury finish. Drink now or keep for 5 – 10 years. Delicate shiraz for enjoying."

2013 By Farr Pinot Noir ‘Tout Pres’ (6 bottles)

‘This is another pinot masterpiece from the experienced hands of Gary Farr. Super concentrated and commanding, it has the classic iron fist in a velvet glove style of powerful elegance. The nose is composed and fragrant with rich dark cherry fruits, bergamot, fresh foresty aromas and cola; oak is beautifully integrated. The palate has impeccable balance from start to finish. Dense and yet silky, tannins build evenly and the wine flows effortlessly, delivering dark spiced cherry flavor with essence-like concentration. This has all the class of Grand Cru Burgundy. Drink now and for up to 10+ years.’ 97 Points Nick Stock.
